Plot: Two American tourists in England are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.
Quite a weird film. Anyone expecting an edge of your seat horror film, that's not what it is. There is a lot of gore but in some ways I'd call this more of a comedy. However, it's black humour so some people may not get it. Another good thing about it is the whole atmosphere of the film, for me because it was set in England it felt a lot closer to home and made the film a lot better. Overal, a weird, gory, comedy that is probably worth watching.
Another classical werewolf dilemma. A realistic approatch but still very surrealistic. Maybe the coolest werewolf and a transformation way ahed of itīs time. And it has a lot of humor.
This movie is very difficult to rate. I do like the everyhing-goes approach and the awkward mixup of Comedy and Horror. Yet, those are the movies weaknsses in my opinion. It start off as a nice farce and great atmosphere (The British villagers), yet the episode in London feels oddly disconnected. In Parts the movie focussed too much on uninteresting aspects instead of following multiple story arcs at the same time. For example, both the fates of the Doctor and the odd Scotland Yard Duo should have been followed in more detail. The lead char is, imho, not good and interesting enough to carry the movie and the problem of turning into a monster. I found the undead friend much more appealing. Why not more undeads haunting the main char. all day ?
Anyway, a goofy and weird flick from the 80ies, for friends of the era and teenage/slasher retro excitment (fright night anyone ?).
But all in all, not worth your time.
PS.: A last note on the makeup effects. They were amazing and greatly done, Kudos !

I THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY COOL HOW THE FRIEND KEPT ON APEARIN TO HIM AND HOW HE SCREAMS IN PAIN WHEN HE CHANGES
Yes its a horror movie but dont let that fool you , there is a nice little love scene in here just dieing to be watched!
quite francly the best horror movie of the 1980s and i have ever seen. as two american tourists in England are attacked by a werewolf that the locals don't admit exists, the werewolf goes on a bloodthirsty journey for flesh and blood. great acting by David Naughton, Jenny Agutter and Sydney Bromley. this film isnt like any other werewolf films, this is far different than them. great comedy especially the transformation scene. some stupid scenes like the "alien mafia" dream and "their is a disturbance in the Picadilli circus involving some mad dog". i recommend this film to horror film lovers. and one more thing, "stay to the road and keep clear off the morrs"
I still think this movie has the best ever were wolf..and his best friend that keep showing up warning him..was funny ..because he was so nice about it..=]
Loved this movie when it came out and it was scary and gory with excellent special effects for the time. It would still be good today. Sad ending.
Another film my dad insisted I watch when I was little is this classic in horror. Though I had nightmares of werewolves and wierd ape-men that break into homes at night with sticks for months, I don't regret it at all. Cult comedies are always the best anyway....
Less is more and that werewolf is damn scary because of it. This movie helped me in my phobia of subway stations being horrible places.
Can I say CLASSIC!?!? Seriously, this movie has absolutely everything that made the 80's so cool. The clothes, the music, the characters, everything about it was just so well-put together. The plot was simple, yet very well thought, and incredibly entertaining, as much as I love classic horror movies, most them are a little slow, this was an exception. The acting was good, and the movie was thrilling and funny at the same time. David Naughton was perfect in his role, and can I say that he was definitely a BABE! in his time! Uff! seriously sexy and that's always plus points in my book. Finally, I have to praise the fantastic job of the make-up artists. That make-up was incredibly sick, Griffin Dunne's as an "undead" man looked magnificently real. Also the special effects for the werewolf were really good, for its time at least, I mean that scene where Naughton is turning into it for the first time was amazing!
I remember watching this film many years ago and thinking what great make up on Jack and how fantastic the metamorphosis scene was, of course compared to what we see today, it does seem quite dated, but the actual storyline isn?t and is still very watchable.
I realy like this movie... I would watch it on MonsterVision then on AMC all while scrapbooking in my kitchen. I am sure that John Landis did not have that in mind while directing this flick.
Well told and acted horror, with an amazing transformation scene (for its time anyway). Really well cast aswel.. the 2 main leads r great together.
it was decent...fairly well acted. the plot got a little slow in spots but it seemed to overcome it ok..
Two American young men travel to England for some European backpacking adventures but get caught up by a werewolf.
I have to admit myself impressed. Good music, not so good acting though, but the make-up is great for being 1981 and the werewolf looks somewhat like you'd imagine one to.
Also quite a lot of fun, odd stuff like people getting eaten to the sounds of a porno movie or jazz music during the sex scenes.
A true classic.
One of the greatest horror films ever made. I liked the fact it didn't take itself too seriously. Great special effects.
Bonkers film!! It's a good blend of a few genres, horror and dark comedy being it's main ones. But has some scenes of pure madness!! (werewolf hit squads?!! brilliant!!)
David Naughton has massive screen presence as well! He plays his role with bucket loads charisma. So much so that by the time the final credits role, you really do feel sorry for the guy, which is important for this film otherwise it would just be another soulless monster movie.
The effects are a main talking point as well. They've aged in a few places, but what do you expect?! It was made in 1981 for christs sake!!! The main transformation scene is a work of genius. It looks amazing, and disturbing in the way it was aiming for. So hats off to the make-up department.
Oh and Jenny Agutter looked freaking hoooooooot back in her days. ^_^
This is a wicked movie! The special effects are awesome! David Naughton was great in this film. Definitely one of the best Werewolf movies ever made!
