i finally saw that i saw the ending like 1 hundred times and it was an ok movie when johnny depp died it was sad I didnt want him to but it was really cheesy when he died but still sad cause i love him so so much
Lived up to all the hype and you can see why it was a shit scary movie of its time. Unique story and I'm looking forward to seeing how the 100s of sequels live up to this one! It was hell weird seeing Johnny Depp as a normal character and he was like 12.
This is a cleverly made movie, it is extremely scary, one of the scariest movies ever made in fact, but I that is just why I can't stand watching it for too long.
Pretty good, I saw the edited version though, but it was still pretty good. I didn't think it was scary though!
1, 2, Freddy's comin' for you...3, 4, better lock your door...5, 6, grab your crucifix...7, 8, gotta stay up late...9, 10, never sleep again.....................
So I rewatch it after so many years and discover that it's still likable. I'm not a big Craven fan but he's clearly proven with this that he has an imagination and an eye. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is a classic, alright.
I THINK THIS WAS THE BEST OF THE WHOLE COLLECTION OF FREDDY KRUGER MOVIES THE SCEAN IN THE TUB WAS SO COOL FUCK AND WHEN GLEN DIES IN HIS BED HIS DEATH WAS AWSOME OH AND WHEN NANCY CALLS GLEN AND FREDDY ANSWERS AND SAYS I'M YOUR BOYFRIEND KNOW NANCY THEN LICKS HER THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORIT SCEANS
Well Freddy didn't have much sense of humor in this one, came off a bit silly, I guess he gets more cunning by age, but everything else was great. Definitely love the idea.
I only didn't understand how comes Freddy showed up when she was awake, the part when the phone rang??? What's the theory behind that? (Well I guess he can do anything he wish...) Didn't get the 5 star because of that.
Besides Halloween, all time scariest teen flick ever made! A must see with the lights off perferably on a stormy night!
One of the best and most original horror movies. Freddy Krueger is now a slasher icon. this is easily the best of the series, and one of the best horror movies ever.
What separates this film from other slashers is its originality and imagination. While it keeps the same rules of horror/slashers set by 'Halloween', it takes a step further by adding a high-concept supernatural plot. A child murderer is burned alive by the parents of Elm Street, he comes back from the dead to haunt the dreams of their children. When he kills them in their dreams he kills them for real. The film's best achievement is its unique villain Freddy Krueger, who greatly differs from previous villains Michael Myers (Hallwoween) and Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th).
created by the master of Horror films Wes Craven nightmare on elm street portays every childs worst nightmare in one film.Having watched this when I was six i can truely say that the film still quite gets me in parts and is WELL composed and well created. For e.g the score "Freddy is coming for you" with the skipping girls is what makes this film creepy and quite frankly I think this film will be an all time favourate of many ppl,the Remake is due to be made and the next freddy krugar will be played by Billy bob thornton .. so it shud offer up some scares however it will not b a patch of this intense and relevently chilling horror that would still send a 6 year old screaming from the room... Excelent scare , and stil offers nt so mch a scare now but still chills you at the thought of the plot .The film is critised however if ppl took a look at the plot tehy would realise why ppl still think it is chilling ... 5 Stars all the way a masterpeice
it's a nice, psychotic slasher...and a classic of the horror genre. i never did, and still don't, see what everyone found so scary about it...but that doesn't keep me from enjoying it whenever i pull it out and watch. it's definitely a grand ol' classic.
Take the slasher formula and apply it to the old tried and true boogeyman story and voila - Wes Craven's cash cow Nightmare on Elm Street. All the kids on elm street are having nightmares of the same knife-finger using, red & green sweater wearing, burnt skin having maniac. Once the lines between dream and reality begin to blur, one particularly brave teen, Nancy (Langenkamp), attempts to unravel the mystery and save her friends. Craven could not have guessed what he was starting with this film. If he owes anyone for his success, it is most certainly Robert Englund who added a personal flair to Freddy Krueger that made him an icon - the first 80's icon who is not hiding behind a mask. In this installment Freddy is brutal and vicious - the one-liner quips are used sparingly (unlike many of the sequels) and the blood flows freely. There is also the instantly recognizable theme music (composed by Charles Berstein) which is fresh and powerful here. The movie does stall a bit in the second act as Nancy investigates the Krueger legend. Langenkamp's obvious limitations as an actress are all the more obvious next to a competent supporting cast. Overall a solid film that spawned a mix bag of sequels.
Even though it was really scary, and had bad effect and stuff, I still loved it. I mean what's a better movie with a guy with a guy with knifes for fingers and Johnny Depp? Well, maybe Edward Scisorhands, but you get the point! =]
Very scary movie ever! When I was little boy about 5 or 6 that was my first watch movie, and I got nightmare of Freddy. CREEPIEST Freddy!
A classic horror film that is still pretty scary. The idea alone is quite creepy and Freddy Krueger is played so well. A must see for all horror fans
Say...
This wasn't supposed to make me laugh, now, was it?
I saw it when I was little and I do not seem to remember the laughing part. I just remember my being afraid of falling asleep.
(Man... I was such a wuss back then.)
So... I guess I should take into consideration that this movie is kinda old and that they didn't have the means to make it any better than it actually is. At least in terms of especial FX.
But what about the acting?
Did they really need to rely on technology in order to achieve good performances?
I think not.
Sorry, but the kids didn't manage to convince me as scared people at all. Especially that Nancy kid. Yeah, you could say she's a very brave girl and that she dealt with the brutal deaths the best way that she could. But it would still seem like a pretty far-fectched kind of acting to me. And the same goes for her mother... Who on earth did the casting for this movie, anyway?
Ah, forget it... I don't really wanna know.
I guess I'm just a little frustrated here. I was hoping to get scared while watching Freddy, but instead all he did was make me laugh. And it's not that I don't enjoy laughing. Most of the times I do. I just don't like it to happen whenever I'm watching a horror film.
Still, the concept here is a very good one. The idea that a killer is able to reach you in your dreams is a somewhat freaky one and should thus receive the deserved credits.
I only think it should have been displayed differently.
This way, the only people who will be scared are underage ones.
Pity!
1..2..freddy 's coming for you..3..4..better lock your door..5..6..grab your crucifix..7..8..better stay awake..9..10..never sleep again.
wes craven who direct this film about teenagers fell asleep to dream about horror nightmare to fought the killer boogeyman name freddy. johnny depp film debut as glen.
there plenty of sequel to "a nightmare on elm street"
I believe this is the 1st horror movie I saw, I was like 6 years old. My older brother rented it and never returned it back to the local movie store because I hid it, I hid the tape, I just liked Freddie so much, I remember thinking of him as a badass mother-f***er. So that explains my rating: 5/5 stars for pure personal sentiments.

This is what i call a real horror movie its my fav horror film awesome YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nightmare on Elm Street was the first Horror movie I ever fell in love with. Robert England really kick butt in this movie, he has done other roles in the past but this one is the one he will always be remembered by. But I do have to admit when he played " Willy " from the series " V ". That wasn't to bad as well and also there was Wishmaster. But Nightmare is far better than any of those.
