Night Of The Living Dead has the best opening setup for a horror film, ever! It sets the mood perfectly.
What can be said about this film that hasnt already been said. It a perfect film from start to finish. Horror doesnt get much better than this and neither does film for that matter.

Probably the only epic horror film ever made. Incredibly intelligent as you watch the societal breakdown starting with the poor in ghettos. Total comic book horror with a realistic touch. screw the remake. The original had a genius like Mr. Romero behind it.

totally amazing. Sure its slow, but this film really does have some important things to say. One of my all time favorite films. Great effects. Probably the best in Savinis carrer.

Such a let down. But still heads above most anything out there nowadays. Maybe ill like it with age. But its missing that epic feel all the others had. Plus we dont really go out into the "Land" most of its in the city. Could of been a cool raod trip horror film.

When it comes to fact who can you trust? The news surely isnt to be trusted says Romero, and ill agree with him there. This seems to be one of the many issues Romero addresses with Diary Of the Dead, Once again using the Zombie film to address his political staments.
Diary of The Dead didnt exactly have me sold in the first 30 minutes or so. In fact i was getting worried it would be a peice of shit! When we first meet the group of young filmmakers, i found them to be pretty annoying. The dialogue was forced and the acting was something to be desired. But once the film really started moving I was hooked. It becomes a really fun road trip film. Something Romero never explored in his previous zombie films. I always wanted to see what was going on outside. Which by the way you would think of a film with the title Land of The Dead you would of had that! This film is in ways better than Land and in other ways Land is better. Diary never matches the uber coolness of his original trilogy, Night, Dawn and Day. But it does start what could be a very entertaining film series.
Now about that shakey cam shit....Its present but, Romero doesnt cop out to the sloppy style of Cloverfeild. His camera is more theatrical and fluid. The film is compiled of hand held footage, security camera footage, you tube and myspace footage and news footage. Creating a very entertaining "first person" quality that moves nicly and gives us a 'scene edited' film. its never blury and theres always a focal point. THANK GOD!
Its a shame that Cloverfield came out first because this film is only gonna be seen as some sort of rip off. Even though this was made way before Cloverfield ever was.
Romero is the man and thank god he's still kicking to give us entertaining horror. Now lets hope he does away with the teens and their annoying dialogue in the next film and gives us some people we truly care about!

Documentary mini series on HBO about the Katrina hurricane catastrophy and the lack of responce from the U.S. govt. in New Orleans. Its a very gut wrenching documentary to watch! It angers me so, to think about how careless and uncoperative the Govt. was and still is towards the people of New Orleans, AMERICAN CITIZENS!! Especially when you see and hear stories of people trying to escape the nightmare, only to be turned back by armed forces who were gonna shoot anyone who tried to cross a bridge that led out of New Orleans!
Made up of testimonials from the people who lived through the Katrina incedent, When The Levees Broke is a hard watch but a very important watch! It reaffirms my lack of faith in the powers that rule and dictate. And it drives that point home well.
I give this four stars, not because of its entertainment value...there nothing entertaining about watching footage of people on the brink of death, but because this is the most powerful documentary ive ever seen!

Best remake ever! Fuck CGI. Rob Bottin shows how its done with rubber!

Exellent sci-fi film. Russell exudes coolness. And his "fuck the system" attitude makes this character memorable. Carpenter was in top form during this era.
Imaginative, thrilling, and at times scary -(chock full o nuts)

"We are going to eat you!" fitting tagline to one of the greatest zombie films ever made! Gianetto De Rossi creates the scariest looking Zombies to ever stumble across the screen.

Danny Boyle pays homage to Romero...and accomplishes it with flying colors! Scary and inventive to an old formula

One of the reason sequels suck, is because the tend to tread the exact same ground as the original. 28 Weeks Later manages to avoid that formula. In 28 Weeks we follow a group of people through the streets of London. With the infected and the american military after them. Sure there are very minor similarities, but this film stands on its own. Its a really good solid entry in this series.
In the first film, we never see the chaos of the inital outbreak. We are introduced to the world that has already been through the chaos. 28 Weeks later also manages to avoid what it was like during the inital outbreak 28 weeks opens during that inital outbreak with a group of survivors trapped in a farm house: ala Night Of The Living Dead. but gives us a clue what it was like ; when the Rage Virus reamerges in a small populated part of London. And man does it spread fast! Scenes of people trapped in a parking garage with 1 infected, leads to almost all of them infected within minutes. Its a great scene. Also the low flying helicopter scene will go down as a classic scene.
I love these types of films: A band of survivors in an Apocalyptic setting being chased by mass crowds of cannibalistic plague carriers. Obviously zombie films come to mind. But with the 28 series ive always found a bit of "possible reality" to them with pandemics like Marburg and Ebola.
28 Weeks LAter is a solid film that delivers. But my one gripe isnt about story or acting. Its about that goddamn use of that epileptic camera style. I understand why its used....."to give the veiwer a sense of real chaos by making tham feel like they are there" But fuck! When your film is made up of action for 2/3's of it, it gets nausiating!....it can still be used, just in subtle ways, like a first person perspective shot. But when you see all the caracters in the frame and the infected chasing and attacking them....hold it steady for christ sakes. Its like these filmmakers sit around and say..." Everybody loves a good epileptic fit!... lets do that!!"
Other than that....I loved this film. Its got some great scary moments and of course its got Robert Carlyle. And iam looking forward to 28 Months Later. So far so good....

Fulci's masterpeice! Great score by Fabio Frizzi.

Fantastic homage to Romero films. A cult classic in its own right!

Grindhouse is a total blast!!! I enjoyed every minute of it! Starting with the Faux Trailer for Machete... Grindhouse keeps the tone of fun set by Machete. Planet Terror was way fun. Very slimy. Jeff Fahey's BBQ character is straight out of an old lowbudget 70's horror film. But Planet Terror felt to "new" to me, with the exeption of a great synth score. It was uber fun non the less.
Thanksgiving gets the prize for capturing the authentic feel of a low budget 70's horror film. It reminded me of the likes of I Drink Your Blood, Pieces, Dont Look in the Basement. I would of loved to have seen this one as a actual film.
Dont, Pays homage to films like The Legend of Hell House and countless other British haunted house films. It was so dead on with the type trailers you would of seen in the 70's. With the narration repeating DONT! Awsome. Zombies faux trailer was good too
Death Proof is definatly misunderstood. Ive read alot of reveiws claiming it to be too slow. Sure it was talkie but goddamn it was good. His dialogue is fun. When it comes to witty dialogue i would much rather hear witty dialogue from him then some ass-bag like Kevin Smith. Kurt Russell kicks so much ass in it. The first car wreck was Brutal!! That tire going through the chicks head!!! My god! The last 20 minutes were intense!!Tarintino really nails the exploitaion vibe! The ending felt like Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. Great stuff!! I cant wait to see it again.

I love this film. SOO much fun. Great soundtrack to featuring The Cramps, T.S.O.L. and The Damned. 1985 was a awsome year for horror films.

Great Fulci flicks. The always twisted Giovanni Lombardo Radice aka John Morgen has one of the coolest deaths ever put on film. Other highlight include a girl vomiting her organs up. Incredible synth score by Fabio Frizzi. One of my favorite Fulci films. But one question; why are there jungle sounds in this New England based film!?

uninspired direction. And the Rambo Barbera gets on my nerves as do all the other cast members.

There something about this film i love. I dont know if its the 40 year old dwarf they got to play a 12 year old boy? Or if its the really bad acting? Or if its the equally bad spfx. The zombies have HUGE heads. I think its all those things and more. Fun film. Great to watch with drunken friends!!

uneven sci fi horror film that still manages to deliver. Great story and set up but its apocalyptic tone is never quite reached. STILL loads of fun though. And great set peices.

Demons
(1985, Unrated)
The Black pimp cracks me up. Cool film that borders on the zombie mythos. It has that apocalyptic feel as Romero's films...its just not done as well. Although this is probably Bava jr.s best film. Great setting and some really creepy scenes. Great transformations and some pretty hot italian woman.

This film is scary. Tim Robbins is scary. Tom Cruises smile is scary. Scientology is scary!
I love that whenever the "walkers" attack, Speilberg samples a note from Close Encounters.
Some of the set peices are breathtaking. The scene were the Aliens come out of the ground is fantastic. With every one getting vaporized. Great retelling of a classic!

Aside from the Lex Baxter score, Panic in Year Zero is top notch. Watching this it was a bit of a shocker seeing the adult themes it presented. It was a shocker because your not used to seeing this type of 1962 fare with rape in it. And thats were the score fails. Lex Baxter uses this jazzy swing type music over what is really intence scenes. The musics cool, its just doesnt fit, and it takes away the impact of the scene.
But the script is intelligent. I was suprised by how true the situatons would probably really play out. This isnt low grade b movie cheez here. Its a damn fine film with a ultra cool story. I love post apocalyptic films and this one is tops.

Not as bad as i expected it to be. And i expected a pretty shitty film here! I mean as soon as i heard Will Smith was cast in the film, my thoughts drifted towards shit like ID4, Men in Black and Wild Wild West. Those non stop action films big stars like to do. I didnt exactly know what acting range he even has seeing as the only straight film from him ive ever seen was Enemy of the State. Which as flawed as that film is, i do like it. But Iam Legend! One of the coolest books written and at the very least a film called Last Man on Earth exists which is one of my favorite horror films of all time!
But i was completely proven wrong here. I mean Iam Legend isnt exactly a wet dream or anything but it does have its moments and Smith does a fine job. He pulls off emotion pretty damn good here. And he has to carry this fillm basicaly by himself. There isnt anyone to tell jokes too. Not to say he doesnt do some funny things....its just not over the top like i expected it would be. In fact the action isnt over the top either. For the most part we watch a man go through his daily routines, slowly loosing his mind. The action doesnt really kick in untill the final act of the film. So its not over done here as i expected it to be. The one major flaw in the film is actually the creatures. They look like Golem, only more human. You can tell they are created by computer. But they werent distracting enough to ruin the film for me. And best of all they werent wearing cloaks....Omega Man.
I liked it. It had enough going for it to keep me interested and there were some truly creepy moments. The scene were he goes into the building looking for his dog is great! Nevilles back story interwoven through out the film is well handled. Alot of the set peices look eerie.
I cant believe Iam giving this film 3 1/2 stars. But i really liked it. Heads above Omega Man.

one of my favorite Price films. He has to carry this film himself...with the exeption of a flashback sequense showing the mysterious plagues breakout. Creepy and fun. Better than Omega Man which was also based on the book Iam Legend.

The Mist doesnt fuck around setting up the suspence. 15 minute in, the stage is set. With a title like the Mist most will be led to think this is a Fog rip off. But what The Mist actually is is the best Lovecraft film that's not Lovecraft. The Mist is possibly the best monster film ive seen in ages! And Darabont has proven that no one can adapt a King book better. And flesh out a King short story better than King could do. King exelles at short storys. His novels leave something to be desired...with the exeption of The Stand.
There are some truly scary moments, And the creatures are so goddamn cool. I think this is going to be a love it or hate it film. Darabont does spend alot of time on the characters. And the bible thumping bitch definatly gets under your skin real fast! But that was the intent. I loved this film. Finally Lovecraft was on the screen and it looked fuking great!
